Back wings: families, sizes & how to choose

Surf V2, Glide, Flow, Carve, Carve EXT, Florence X, and Grubb 16 stabilizers explained.

Back wings (stabilizers) control pitch stability and turning feel. Longer fuselage + larger area = more stability; shorter fuselage + smaller area = sharper, looser turns. All back wings are bolt-on.

The families

Series

Character

Best for

Surf V2 (38, 48)

Maximum stability, most forgiving

New riders, eFoil default

Glide (25, 32, 36, 46)

Maximum efficiency

Downwind, pumping, eFoil battery life

Flow (21, 26, 31)

Efficiency + stability bridge

Stepping down from Surf V2

Carve (20, 26, 33)

Sharp turns, grip, dynamic

Surf foiling, performance

Carve EXT (20, 26)

Carve + extra pitch authority

LIFTX high mount, choppy conditions

Florence X (20 X, 21 X)

Signature tuned

Surf (20 X) or downwind (21 X)

Grubb 16

Ultra-loose, smallest

Wake, advanced surf

Surf V2 (the default)

The "bread and butter" eFoil back wing. 38 is the most versatile (factory LIFT5 F 4'9 Sport); 48 is the largest/most stable (factory LIFT5 F 5'4 Cruiser). Both have an 8.25" fuselage.

Glide (efficiency)

All share a long fuselage for max efficiency. 36 is the gold standard (factory LIFT5 Sport/Pro); 46 is the largest (factory LIFT5 Cruiser). Pair with High Aspect / Florence X / Camber Pro fronts.

Flow (the bridge)

12" fuselage — small-wing efficiency with large-wing stability. 26 is the bestseller (factory on the LIFT5 Laird and some LIFTX); 31 is the most stable (factory LIFTX 5'2/5'4); 21 is for advanced riders.

Carve & Carve EXT (performance)

Short fuselage, winglets, positive tail angle for razor-sharp turns. 26 is the most popular; 20 is the loosest; 33 adds forgiveness. The EXT versions extend the fuselage to 8" for LIFTX high-mount setups and choppier conditions.

Signature

  • Florence 20 X — a 20 Carve with more hold; surf, wake, wing, kite (advanced, under 180 lbs).

  • Florence 21 X — an ultra high-performance downwind tail (8" fuselage) for bump-connecting glide.

  • Grubb 16 — the smallest, loosest back wing; wake, tow, advanced surf.

How to choose

  • New / most versatile: 38 Surf V2

  • Max stability / heavier rider: 48 Surf V2

  • Efficiency / downwind: Glide

  • Ready for performance: step down to Flow, then Carve
