eFoils are powerful, responsive boards. Riding safely starts with the right conditions, the right gear, and respect for the learning curve.

Rider age

Lift Foils recommends riders be at least 16 years old to operate an eFoil safely. For younger riders or anyone who wants extra stability, the Blowfish accessory adds inflatable rails that make riding more buoyant and forgiving.

Protective gear

  • Helmet and impact vest are strongly recommended

  • A life jacket / PFD is recommended for beginners

  • A leash on your ankle or calf keeps the board with you after a fall

Auto-shutoff

The eFoil is designed to cut power automatically when the hand controller touches the water or the trigger is released. This is a core safety feature — but it is not a substitute for good judgment and protective equipment.

Choosing where to ride

  • Calm, flat water at least 4–5 ft deep

  • Away from swimmers, boats, docks, and shallow areas

  • Start on the lowest speed/power setting
