Data cable / connector issues (Fischer & ODU)

Wrong cable, corroded pins, or loose connections between battery, eBox, and charger.

Background

Lift eFoils use a data cable to connect the battery to the eBox. Two connector types exist:

  • Fischer (5-pin) — current standard (Gen4 batteries and newer eBoxes)

  • ODU (8-pin) — older standard (first-generation batteries and eBoxes)

Wrong cable for your setup

If your eBox has a Fischer port but your battery has an ODU connector (or vice versa), you need the Adapter Data Cable — Fischer to ODU. This is the most common "cable" issue — not a failure, just a compatibility mismatch when mixing components across generations.

Corroded or bent pins

Salt water corrodes connector pins over time. Symptoms: intermittent power to the eBox, board powers on sometimes but not others, error indicators on the controller. Fix: inspect the pins on both the cable and the port. Clean corrosion with electrical contact cleaner. If pins are bent, straighten carefully or replace the cable.

Loose connection

Vibration or improper seating can work the cable loose, with the same intermittent symptoms. Fix: disconnect and firmly reconnect — the cable should click or seat securely.

Which cable goes where

  • Battery → eBox: data cable (Fischer 5-pin or ODU 8-pin)

  • Charger → Battery: charger cable (Fischer 5-pin or ODU 8-pin)

These are different cables for different connections — don't mix them up.
