Propulsion not responding / motor won't spin

Board powers on and the controller connects, but the trigger does nothing — here's why.

Symptoms

  • Board powers on and the controller connects, but pulling the trigger produces no motor response

  • Motor stutters or vibrates but doesn't spin smoothly

  • Jet or propeller doesn't respond to throttle

  • Motor worked last session but now does nothing

Diagnostic steps

  1. Confirm the controller is connected. Check the display for a connection indicator. If it shows "not connected," see Hand controller problems.

  2. Check propulsion connections. On an LCS board, ensure the propulsion is fully clicked in — you should feel a positive click. A partially seated LCS connection causes intermittent motor issues.

  3. Inspect the propeller. For folding props, check the blades move freely and aren't jammed with debris (seaweed, fishing line, rocks). For LCS props, confirm the prop and tail cone are fully snapped on.

  4. Check for water in the hatch. Water reaching the eBox can shut down motor output as a safety measure. Dry thoroughly and try again.

  5. Inspect the phase seals. The tri-color seals (green, yellow, red) keep the eBox-to-motor connection waterproof. Degraded or unseated seals let water reach the phase connections and cause motor failure. Replacement sets are a service part.

  6. Check for impact damage to the mast, motor housing, and propeller.

Most common cause

Based on support patterns, the most common cause when the board powers on and the controller connects is eBox failure — the board looks normal (lights on, controller connected) but the motor won't respond.

Resolution

If basic troubleshooting doesn't resolve it, contact support with your board model and serial number, what you've tried, and whether the issue started suddenly or gradually.
