Phase seal maintenance

What phase seals do, why they matter, and when to replace the tri-color set.

What are phase seals?

Phase seals are small rubber O-rings that create a waterproof seal around the motor phase connections — the three wires carrying power from the eBox through the mast to the motor. They come in three colors (green, yellow, red) to match the three phase wires.

Why they matter

If phase seals degrade or aren't properly seated, water can reach the phase connections, corrosion forms on the contacts, motor performance degrades (stuttering, reduced power), and eventually the motor may stop responding. Phase seal failure is a contributing factor in many "motor won't respond" and "intermittent power" issues.

When to inspect

  • After every season, as part of annual maintenance

  • After any impact — collisions can dislodge seals

  • If you notice motor changes — stuttering, reduced power, intermittent cutouts

  • During any propulsion service — whenever you remove or reinstall the propulsion unit

Replacement

Tri Color Phase Seals — a set of 6 (2 green, 2 yellow, 2 red). One of the most affordable and impactful maintenance items you can buy.

Installation

Follow the Lift eFoil User Manual. The seals press onto the phase wire terminals and should seat firmly and evenly — match each color to its corresponding wire.
