Water ingress in the hatch compartment

Why water in the hatch is serious, how to prevent it, and what to do if it gets in.

Symptoms

  • Water visible inside the battery hatch when opened

  • Board powers off unexpectedly during a ride

  • Corrosion on connectors or the eBox

  • Musty smell from the hatch compartment

Why it matters

The hatch houses the eBox, battery connections, and wiring. Water reaching these can cause eBox shutdown or failure, corroded connector pins, short circuits, and long-term corrosion.

Prevention

  1. Inspect the hatch seal before every ride — clean, undamaged, properly seated.

  2. Close the hatch completely — latches fully engaged, hatch flush.

  3. Replace worn latches — Carbon Fiber Latch / Latch v2 and Friction Hinges are available.

  4. Check the hatch tape — the eFoil Hardware Kit includes replacement adhesive seal.

  5. Rinse with fresh water after every session.

If water gets in

  1. Power off immediately if you notice water during a ride.

  2. Open the hatch and tip the board to drain.

  3. Disconnect the battery from the eBox.

  4. Dry everything thoroughly — towels, then air dry completely before reconnecting.

  5. Inspect connector pins for corrosion; clean with contact cleaner if needed.

  6. Test on land before going back in the water.

Repeated water ingress

If water keeps getting in despite good maintenance, the seal may be degraded or the hatch frame warped. Contact Lift support for evaluation.
